The Montage of Morecambe is the result of months of workshops run by local artist Chas Jacobs in local primary schools in Poulton.
Children from Years 5 and 6 from Poulton-le-Sands, Morecambe Bay and St Mary's Primary School were asked what Morecambe means to them, and to paint pictures to reflect their thoughts. The pupils came up with ideas including the Midland Hotel, the TERN birds, the Winter Gardens, Eric Morecambe and the Stone Jetty.
These images provided Chas with the inspiration to come up with the completed Montage of Morecambe. Chas has added in his signature style of sea gulls, hot air balloons and fluffy white clouds.
Some of the actual paintings completed by the children accompany the montage on the Clock Tower toilets.
Poulton Neighbourhood Management, a Lancaster City Council regeneration scheme, commissioned the work and contributed £4,750 towards the project.
The original artwork can be seen at the Poulton Neighbourhood Management office, 53 Euston Road, Morecambe.
Two years ago Poulton Neighbourhood Management and Lancaster City Council invested a significant amount into the upgrading of the toilets at the Clock Tower which are well utilised by visitors and local people and this artwork has made a positive impact to the appearance of the building.
