Scottish borders based singer songwriter Karine Polwart will perform at the Platform on Friday 14th November at 8pm.
Winner of Best Album, Best Original Song and Best Emerging Artiste at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2005, Karine combines the storytelling tradition with a probing intellect, compassionate lyricism and a canny knack for memorable melodies.
Though her songs resonate with roots and traditional references, there are indie, alt country and jazz influences as well. Her dark tales of human cruelty and loss are balanced by a persuasive sense of hope and possibility and a sprinkling of wry humour that prove she is a writer and musician who knows both the best and the worst that the world has to offer.
Karine is on tour to promote her album `This Earthly Spell` which was released in March this year. Following on from the fireside intimacy of her Scottish traditional collection `Fairest Floo`er`, the new album reinforces Karine`s reputation as a humane and perceptive songwriter who draws on indie and roots influences as much as folk traditions.
Karine will be accompanied by Steven Polwart on guitars and Inge Thomson on accordion and percussion.
Tickets for this concert cost £12 and are available from the Box Office on 01524 582803 or 01524 406108.
