Children invited to pedal away their Half Term Holiday

Lancaster City Council is offering a range of cycle skill courses during the October half term holiday to get your kids pedalling out into the wonderful autumn breeze.

Lancaster City Council is offering a range of cycle skill courses during the October half term holiday to get your kids pedalling out into the wonderful autumn breeze.

All four courses on offer take place at Salt Ayre Sports Centre and cater for different ages and abilities. 

Learn to Cycle!
Wednesday 29 October
10am – Noon and 1pm – 3pm
Thursday 30th
1 – 3pm
This course is aimed at children (of four years or older)who use stabilisers or cannot yet ride.  Pedals (and stabilisers) will be removed from the bikes so that the children can learn to balance before they progress to pedaling.  Children must be accompanied by an adult who may be asked to assist.

Cycle Skills
Thursday,30 October
10am – Noon
Cycle skills for ages 10-13.  This course will be all off road.  Participants will practice bike handling skills to prepare them for riding on the road.  It will cover National Standards level 1 and those who pass will receive a certificate.  The course is open to all abilities. 

Friday 31 October
10am – 12noon
Cycle skills for ages 6 -9.  This course will be all off road.  It is open to all abilities and will be lots of fun.  Children under 8 should be accompanied by an adult.

On Road Cycle Skills and Bike Ride
Friday 31 October
1pm – 4pm
On road cycle skills and a bike ride for ages 10-13.  Children should have completed the off road cycle skills course before taking part in this cycling activity. It will cover some of National Standards level 2.  Please bring some money or a snack for the snack stop.

All courses cost £5 and participants must bring a roadworthy bike and suitable clothes for being outdoors.

Places can be booked and paid for at Salt Ayre Sports Centre, Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm (from 10am to 7pm on Wednesday) or by contacting the booking information line on (01524) 842493, between the same times.
