Mari Wilson, the 'Beehive Girl' from the 80s, to perform at The Platform

Mari Wilson, the 'Beehive Girl' from the 80s, will perform at the Platform as part of her major national UK tour on Friday October 24.

Mari Wilson, the 'Beehive Girl' from the 80s, will perform at the Platform as part of her major national UK tour on Friday October 24.

Mari first arrived on the scene in the early eighties with her skyscraper beehive hairdo, bizarre sense of fashion and fully choreographed 12 piece band, The Wilsations.  Mari's live shows were spoken about as an event – pure entertainment!

In 1982, Mari's records began entering the charts and she had six hit singles, the biggest being 'Just What I Always Wanted' and 'Cry Me A River', both taken from her album 'Showpeople'.

In the mid eighties, after constant touring of the UK, Europe and the USA, Mari reduced the size of her band (and her hairdo!) and changed direction with a jazz quartet.  Playing venues such as Ronnie Scotts and the Royal Festival Hall (supporting the legendary Stan Getz), jazz festivals alongside BB King and Ray Charles, Mari has continued to build her reputation as a great live performer.

Mari has also appeared in musical theatre, playing Nickie Pignatelli in Phil Wilmott's production of 'Sweet Charity', Annabel in the black comedy, 'The Chainsaw Manicure' and Dusty Springfield in 'Dusty the Musical' which toured throughout the UK for seven months in 2000.  Other work has included a Sunday show on GLR and singing the theme tunes to various TV shows including the highly successful 'Coupling' performing the song 'Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps'.   Mari appeared in the outrageously camp show 'Girltalk' with Barb Jungr and Claire Martin and performed with Boy George in the West End musical 'Taboo'.

Now on tour to promote her new album 'Emotional Glamour', Mari will turn back the clock to the glory days of soul and sing all her old hits plus some new material.   The show will start at 8pm and tickets cost £14 adults, £13 concessions, from the Box Office on 01524 582803 or 01524 406108.  Tickets are also available online from www.seetickets.com
