Three people will pick up cheques totalling £875 – just for returning their electoral registration forms early.
Earlier this year, Lancaster City Council launched a new campaign to encourage people to return their electoral registration forms before September 15.
All households which registered before this date were entered into the free draw.
The winners were drawn on Friday with Dorothy Rogerson from Carnforth coming out of the hat first and winning the £500 top prize.
Donna and Phillip Nott from Heysham picked up £250 as runners-up, while Alan Smith from Lancaster has won £125 for coming third.
The winners were picked by Lancaster City Council’s chief executive, Mark Cullinan, who said: “It is extremely important that people register to vote and, in doing so, ensure their voice is heard.
"By registering early the winners of the competition have helped us to reduce the cost of the annual canvass, which ultimately benefits us all.
"I would urge anyone who has not yet registered to do so as soon as possible."
Annual canvass registration forms were sent out to all households in the district during August and further reminders were sent in September to those who had not replied. This registration has to be completed on an annual basis at this time of the year.
Legislation now requires a personal canvass of all homes that haven’t responded before the register is published on December 1.
The aim of the competition was to ease the burden on the canvassers and, ultimately, reduce the cost of the annual canvass.
