A chance to comment on public services

Thousands of people across the Lancaster district are to have their say on what it is like to live in the area.

Thousands of people across the Lancaster district are to have their say on what it is like to live in the area.

During the next few weeks 2,500 households will receive a questionnaire asking for their views on a range of issues which affect their daily lives.

Known as the 'Place Survey', it will ask a range of questions on a range of issues including crime, anti-social behaviour, street cleanliness, transport, health and general wellbeing.

The results will help build up a picture of the area and identify 'hot spot' issues so resources can be targeted effectively.

Coun Roger Mace, leader of Lancaster City Council, said: "If you receive one of these questionnaires, please respond to it. The more replies we get back, the more accurate the survey will be."

The survey is a Government requirement and all districts across the country will be asking the same questions so that national trends and comparisons can be made.

Recipients of the survey will be chosen at random and all responses will be confidential.

In as money saving initiative, Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County Council have joined forces to run the survey.

County Councillor Hazel Harding, leader of Lancashire County Council, added: “By working together like this we are saving money and acting in the best interests of local taxpayers.  The survey has to be done and it is our job to make sure it is done in the most efficient way possible.  We are now asking anybody who receives a questionnaire to please fill it in and send it back.  It is only by listening to people and acting on their views that we can ensure local communities improve for the better.”
