Born Bernard Jewry, Alvin received his first guitar for his 12th birthday and in 1958 went to see his idol Buddy Holly in concert. After the concert he had the guitar autographed by Buddy and the Crickets. From then on he collected signatures from lots of the young rock 'n' roll pioneers he met and worked with over the next few years. Amongst the names are Billy Fury, Marty Wilde, Joe Brown, Johnny Kidd, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and The Beatles. This show is a tribute to all these acts and many more, with music from the 50s to the 80s including Alvin's own 70s hits.
As Shane Fenton, Alvin became one of the first British rock 'n' roll stars and then Alvin Stardust became a global legend in the 70s. Alvin is now well respected in the theatre world and played West End and national tours in parts ranging from Jesus in Godspell, Uriah Heap in David Copperfield, The Marquis of Queensbury in Oscar Wilde, and the Childcatcher in the London Palladium's production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
It is now 50 years since Buddy Holly signed Bernard`s £1.10s guitar and it is now valued at $2,000,000. Not a bad investment his mum and dad made! Certainly a great inspiration to go out and play 50 years worth of rock 'n' roll songs and to remember all those wonderful times and people.
The concert will start at 7.30pm and tickets cost £15 from the Box Office on 01524 582803 or 01524 406108.
