Free Christmas parking extended in Morecambe

Lancaster City Council is this year extending its traditional early Christmas present to residents and visitors of free parking on selected Sundays to all its car parks in Morecambe.
Since 2001 the city council has offered seasonal shoppers free parking in all its car parks in Lancaster and in 2006 extended the offer to three car parks in Morecambe (Library, Festival Market and Pedder Street).
Following discussions with the Morecambe Chamber of Trade, through the Morecambe Retail, Commercial and Tourism Cabinet Liaison Group, the Lancaster offer of free parking on a selection of Sundays has now been extended to all the city council's car parks in Morecambe.
Coun Roger Mace, leader of Lancaster City Council, said: "This change shows that the city council is willing to consider representations from traders. The new arrangements give Morecambe a level playing field with Lancaster in competing for Sunday trade in the run up to Christmas.”
The free parking will be on offer on Sundays from November 16 leading up to Christmas.
