Morecambe goes ooh la la for a taste of the continent

Visitors from across Lancashire flocked to Morecambe at the weekend to sample the culinary delights of the continent.
For three days (August 29 to 31) the town’s Festival Market played host to a visiting continental market.
Trading alongside Lancaster City Council’s long-established and traditional British Market (which boasts 108 diverse stalls and shops) the Continental Market occupied over 150 metres of additional stalls.
Traders reported that customer numbers were up and Morecambe was packed with visitors. Trade was so brisk that the Polish Cider seller left with a completely empty van and a smile on his face and the stall selling imported garden ornaments had to fetch more stock each evening.
Bobby Cragg, of Rebecca's Market Café, reported a ‘bumper weekend’ in the family’s café.
Providing delights such as French cheeses, bratwurst sausages, dried fruits, paella and risotto, it was hard to resist tucking into the delicacies. It wasn’t just food that was on offer with stalls also selling fragrant French soaps, wooden flowers, pashminas, bone china tableware and exquisite jewellery. With the wonderful sights and smells it wasn’t hard to think you’d been transported to the Mediterranean.
Tracey Bruce, market manager, said: “It was a pleasure to play host to the Continental Market again this year. They were very professional and worked with our traders to make the event a huge success. It is reassuring to know that visitors from around Lancashire are making the trip to Morecambe for these events and I’m sure the Continental Market will continue to grow in popularity."
