A motorist who dropped a CD case out of his car window onto the street has been ordered to pay £110 by a court.
Jamie Levy was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice in April this year by one of Lancaster City Council's enforcement officers after he was spotted dropping the case while driving along Owen Road in Lancaster.
Despite being given ample time to pay the fine Mr Levy failed to do so and the council was left with no choice but to pursue the case through the courts.
Mr Levy, of Stoney Lane in Forton, pleaded guilty to the offence and was ordered to pay a fine of £65, £30 costs and a £15 contribution to victims of crime.
Coun Jon Barry, cabinet member with responsibility for environmental enforcement, said: "If we are to have a litter-free district then we just can't have people chucking litter onto the streets. It is sad that we have to fine people but if that is what it takes then we have to pursue it."
