Comedian Mark Steel to appear at The Platform

Mark Steel

Mark Steel

A night of comedy with Mark Steel.

Taking the theme of his brilliant book, ‘What’s Going On?’, BAFTA award-nominated comedian Mark Steel is back on tour with his brand new show. He will be performing at the Platform on Saturday April 18.

Upon entering his 40s, Mark’s personal life began to disintegrate. Spending many sleepless nights on the sofa, watching inane cable TV into the early hours of the morning, Mark asked himself the question ‘What’s Going On?’.

Mark’s new show goes right to the heart of Britain and the problems it suffers today. Topics discussed and dissected in the inimitable Mark Steel style include why over a million people marching in London couldn’t stop the war in Iraq and why the supermarkets are killing the small town centres of Britain.

In the confusion of modern times, Mark asks ‘What exactly are we supposed to do about it?' Bitingly funny, sharply observed and very much of the moment, this is Mark Steel at his brilliantly intelligent best.

Mark has been performing as a stand up comedian on the British comedy circuit since 1983 and this is his second visit to the Platform. He has also written and performed four series of the Mark Steel Solution (Radio 4) and four series of The Mark Steel Lectures (Radio 4).

The television version of the Mark Steel Lectures ran for three series on BBC4 and was nominated for both a BAFTA Television Award and a Royal Television Society Award. Mark is also a regular columnist for The Independent.

The show will start at 8pm and tickets cost £13 from the box office on 01524 582803.
