Local youngsters invited to celebrate Bike to School Week with two guided rides
Join in the fun with two guided rides after school!
As schools across the country prepare to celebrate Bike to School Week 2009 (20-24 April), Lancaster City Council's Cycling Demonstration Town Team and Sustrans Bike It Officers are inviting local youngsters to join in the fun with two guided rides after school.
Bike to School Week is now in its fifth year and has been designed to encourage young people who don’t normally ride to school to join their friends and give it a go.
The Lancaster District is no exception and having the status as a Cycling Demonstration Town (CDT) with 23 designated Bike It Schools, progress is already well underway in encouraging scores more youngsters to do just that.
Working closely with the CDT team, local Sustrans Bike It Officers, Damian Bonsall and Kathy Bashford, are already making tracks to increase cycling levels in schools by providing training, fun activities and offering support to teachers and parents to help encourage more children to turn up to lessons on their bike.
To celebrate national Bike to School Week, Kathy and Damian are leading two family bike rides for young people and their parents/carers to enjoy after school.
