Market traders make generous donation
Traders from Morecambe’s Festival Market have got together to sponsor a local football team.
Heysham Reserves, who play in the 4th Division of the Lancaster Honda Lancaster and District League, have received funding for their kit from the Traders’ Committee.
Alan Greenhalgh from the Traders’ Committee, said: “As traders we value commitment and support from local customers and wanted to put something back as a sign of our appreciation”
The Festival Market, which is operated by Lancaster City Council, has hundreds of bargains on offer all year round.
Opened in 1996, it continues to go from strength to strength and currently boasts 108 stalls and a number of shops.
On top of the local people who use the market, it also attracts visitors from far and wide and last year more than 200 coaches, carrying 7,000 visitors, visited the market to pick up some ‘bargains by the sea’.
Tracey Bruce, manager of the Festival Market, added: “The Festival Market Traders’ Committee’s donation is an inspired initiative and it’s good to see the traders and the local community working together – it also gives us all at the market a great reason to follow the team’s progress.”
