Women on Wheels - guided cycle ride to Sunderland Point
Women only bike ride on Sunday May 3.
Lancaster City Council continues its programme of guided cycle rides for women this weekend (Sunday, May 3) and invites you to join them on a leisurely adventure by bike to Sunderland Point.
The aim of the rides which take place on the first Sunday of every month until October, is to encourage women who might not have the confidence they need to cycle on their own, to get out and about with other like minded ladies.
Following routes included in the Cycling for All Guide, these interesting and relaxing rides are free of charge and suitable for all levels of ability.
This Sunday's event will take riders on a tidal trail to the atmospheric shores of Sunderland Point . This is one of the lesser known routes in the Lancaster district taking riders to the small isolated village of Sunderland. Please note that although it uses some off-road paths, a lot of the 12 mile ride is on the road through Overton.
Riders should meet at 11am at the Millennium Bridge, Lancaster.
Don't forget to bring a picnic.
A full programme of Women on Wheels rides and other cycling events is included in the council's free Rides and Events Guide 2009 available from visitor information centres and town halls in Lancaster and Morecambe and local libraries. Copies can also be downloaded from the cycling website www.celebratingcycling.org/eventsguide or requested by telephone - 01524 582392 or 582616.
Please note that this ride has been brought forward a month due to tide times and replaces the scheduled ride to Carnforth.
