Independent panel seeks new members
Have a say in councillors' expenses
MPs expenses have been in the news this year – but how much do you know about those paid to your local city councillors?
Lancaster City Council’s Independent Remuneration Panel helps to set the level of allowances and expenses paid to city councillors under the Members Allowance Scheme.
There are currently two vacancies on the panel which need to be filled, so if you want to have a say on the allowances and expenses your city councillors receive, here’s your chance.
On average meetings take place two to three times a year at Lancaster Town Hall but will be held more frequently in years when a review of the scheme is to take place.
Reviews are undertaken every four years, with the next scheduled for 2011.
An application form, together with full details of the requirements of the appointment and additional background information, is available from Democratic Services, Town Hall, Dalton Square, Lancaster, LA1 1PJ.
Alternatively download a form from the council’s website www.lancaster.gov.uk, email democracy@lancaster.gov.uk or telephone 01524 582096.
The deadline for applications is September 28 2009 and interviews will take place on Thursday October 15 2009.
Those appointed as members of the panel must not be a member of the city council or any of its committees.
They must also not be disqualified from becoming a member of the council.
The duties of the post may require travelling and expenses will be reimbursed.
If you would like to know more, please telephone Roger Muckle, Corporate Director (Finance and Performance), on 01524 582022.
