Success for Connecting Communities funding bid
LANCASTER City Council has been successful in a bid for funding to help people in one of the district’s most deprived areas.
The council will receive a grant from the Government’s ‘Connecting Communities’ fund for the Skerton East and Skerton West wards in Lancaster.
The core objective of the scheme is to encourage local people to speak out about their concerns, to be more aware of opportunities arising from public investment in their community and have an opportunity to have a say about local services.
No details have yet been released as to how much money the council will receive from the fund, but it is likely to be used for:
- Leadership and community development
- Development of a community action plan
- Estate improvement schemes led by Council Housing
- Support work with individual families
Ward councillors, community groups and residents/tenants associations will all be asked to get involved with the project.
Coun Stuart Langhorn, leader of Lancaster City Council, said: “This is excellent news.
“The recession has had a major impact on our communities and none more so than areas such as Skerton.
“This project will help to make sure that the community becomes stronger and more cohesive.”
