An evening of Appalachian music and dance with Debby McClatchy and Uncle Henry`s Favourites comes to the Platform on Thursday 19th February.
This gathering of USA musicians aim to brighten up the long winter nights with old time songs, dance and tunes from their beloved Appalachian mountains. Fiddles, banjos and close harmony vocals will warm your hearts and set your feet tapping. Audience participation is very much encouraged, so if the spirit takes you get up and join in!
Debby McClatchy has spent much of her life in the Appalachian mountains but now resides in California where she specialises in old time banjo and song. An expert entertainer of enormous presence and sensitivity, she plays an enormous variety of acoustic instruments. Her combination of good time, old time instrumentals, glorious singing with occasional outbreaks of freestyle Appalachian stepping and mountain fiddling has made her one of the most popular and appreciated of traditional performers and teachers.
Uncle Henry`s Favourites are Pete Vigour on fiddle, banjo, guitar and vocals, Ellen Vigour on mandolin and vocals with Arnie Naiman on guitar and banjo. The band hail from the rolling hills of Albermarle County, Virginia, where old time music is a family tradition.
The concert will start at 7.30pm and tickets cost £11 adults, £10 concessions from the Box Office on 01524 582803.
The following morning, Friday 20th February, Ellen Vigour from Uncle Henry`s Favourites will lead an Appalachian Dance Workshop in the Platform starting at 10.30am. Ellen is a well known and popular dance caller in the US and will be joined by Debby McClatchy and the other members of the band. Come along and learn some Appalachian clog dances, this workshop is free and all ages and levels of ability are welcome.
