Women can wheel away their Sundays

Lancaster City Council is inviting women of the district to get on their bikes to explore and enjoy our city, coast and countryside with its programme of women only guided cycle rides for 2009.

Lancaster City Council is inviting women of the district to get on their bikes to explore and enjoy our city, coast and countryside with its programme of women only guided cycle rides for 2009.

Following the success of the rides in 2007 and 2008, this year’s programme will kick off on Sunday, March 1 bound for the Lune valley.  Rides will then take place on the first Sunday of the month, until October.

More and more people are finding out how fun cycling can be.  If you’ve been thinking about giving it a go then why not go along.

These leisurely and interesting excursions aim to encourage all women, whatever their cycling ability, to explore the district by bike with other like minded women. For those who come along to the first ride, you will receive a free organic Women on Wheels t-shirt.

The dates for your diaries are:

March 1st - Crook o’ Lune and Lune Valley
April 5th - Glasson Dock and Lune Estuary
May 3rd - Sunderland Point
June 7th - Brief Encounters in Carnforth
July 5th - Hest Bank and Morecambe
August 2nd - Halton and the Bay
September 6th - Cockerham
October 4th - Mystery Ride

All rides will start at the Millennium Bridge (Lancaster end) at 11am.  There’s no need to book – just turn up and enjoy the company.  You can bring a snack/drink but there is usually a café stop at the halfway stage.

There are a small number of bikes available to borrow for these rides.  These need to be arranged at least 3 days in advance of the ride by calling 01524 582392 or via email.

For more information on the rides email celebratingcycling@lancaster.gov.uk or visit the website at www.celebratingcyling.org.  The full rides and events programme for 2009 will be available in late March.

Economic Development and Tourism is just one of a wide range of services provided to you by Lancaster City Council. These services would not be possible without the support of the £3.52 which, on average, you pay in council tax to Lancaster City Council . For more information on the council's services visit www.lancaster.gov.uk/makingeverypennycount.
