Silver gilt for city council
Lancaster City Council has dug up yet another medal at the RHS Tatton Flower show.
This year's entry picked up a silver gilt in the National Flowerbed Competition.
The theme of the entry remembers the tragic events of February 2004 when 23 Chinese cockle pickers died in Morecambe Bay.
The display featured a cockle picker’s cart and rake lie stranded on a sandbank in the middle of Morecambe Bay surrounded by the sea – the same scene which confronted the rescue workers the following morning.
It was designed by the council’s grounds maintenance team and local artist Chas Jacobs.
Coun Jon Barry, cabinet member with responsibility for the environment, said: "The team responsible for putting together the display should feel proud of themselves for achieving yet another medal in one of the toughest competitions around."
