Guided cycle ride for women to Halton and the bay

Enjoy the countryside on a leisurely bike ride.

Lancaster City Council’s programme of 'Women on Wheels' rides continues on Sunday 2 August taking cyclists on a stunning countryside meander to Morecambe Bay.

Women on Wheels rides have taken place on the first Sunday of every month since March this year to encourage women who might not have the confidence they need to cycle on their own to get out and about with other like-minded ladies.

Leaving the hustle and bustle of city life behind, the next ride takes cyclists to the breezy shores of Morecambe Bay through historic villages, lush countryside with expansive hilltop views and a secret valley.

Taking cyclists off the beaten cycle track at times along the canal towpath and quieter public roads, this 15 mile long ride is slightly more demanding than some previous rides.

All rides kick off from the Millennium Bridge, Lancaster at 11am.

So if fun in the fresh air and great company is for you, just turn up on the day with a roadworthy bike and snacks or money . Everyone's welcome so why not bring along a friend or two.

All rides are featured in the council's Cycling for All Guide which is available free of charge from town hall customer service centres at visitor information centres at Lancaster and Morecambe. Alternatively, you can download a copy from www.celebratingcycling.org

Ladies who are looking for a bit of advice on bikes, cycle gear and accessories or want to brush up on their cycling ahead of the ride might like to take up the offer of attending the following two free events ahead of the ride.

Open evening at Leisure Lakes, Lancaster - Thursday 30 July 30 (6- 8pm)

Come along to Leisure Lakes on Penny Street, Lancaster for advice on bikes, clothing and accessories.

Complimentary drinks and discount available on the night.
