Street Pride scheme goes from strength to strength
Deep clean for another two streets
TWO Lancaster streets are the latest to be given a deep clean as part of Lancaster City Council’s popular Street Pride scheme.
A hit squad of council workers recently moved onto Prospect Street and Dale Street and carried out a range of services including street cleansing, grounds maintenance, gully emptying and minor street repairs.
Coun Jon Barry, Cabinet with responsibility for the environment, said: "The Street Pride scheme is a popular service with the public and the results of recent work on Dale Street and Prospect Street show just why."
More than 40 streets across the district have received the Street Pride treatment since the scheme was launched in April 2008.
The aim of the scheme, which is run in conjunction with Lancashire County Council and with assistance from the police, is to target streets which are in need of a much more thorough clean than that provided through the city council’s normal street cleansing service.
As part of the scheme residents are asked to sign up to a Street Pride charter in which they commit to helping the council maintain the appearance of the newly cleaned street.
Streets are chosen in consultation with ward councillors and those on the list for the next seven months include:
