'Bike It' picnic in Happy Mount Park
Pack your rucksack and take part.
Lancaster City Council invites you to pack your rucksacks full of tasty treats and cycle along to their ‘Bike It’ picnic in Happy Mount Park.
The fun begins at 1pm on Sunday 5 July with an exciting line up of entertainment throughout the day including a amazing display of stunts by champion trials cyclists Ben Slinger and Danny Butler.
For all those wanting to brush up on their bike maintenance and cycle skills, there’ll be plenty of classes on the day with Pedal Power and Cog Set. Following the maintenance training, parents can battle against each other and their children in a puncture repair challenge and a bike check competition.
There will also be a bike ‘jumble sale’ for you to bring along your old bike clothes, accessories, parts and frames to either swap or giveaway. Smaller items can be dropped off at Morecambe Town Hall from Monday 29 June. Simply put them in a bag or box and mark them for the attention of the Celebrating Cycling Team.
There'll be a mobile bmx park in Happy Mount Park's tennis courts for the braver cyclists. All riders must be wearing a helmet.
As the event will also mark the 1000th young cyclist to have successfully completed Bikeability training in 2008/09, all those who have taken part in the training are invited to bring along their certificate or badge to be in with a chance of winning a brand new bike from Leisure Lakes.
If it sounds like the perfect day for you and your family why not travel to the event the easy way by taking advantage one of two guided rides departing from the Millennium Bridge, Lancaster and Bay Cottages play area in Heysham (just north east of the Knowlys Road access to the promenade) at 12.30pm.
All children taking part in the rides must be accompanied by an adult and have a roadworthy bike.
Everyone welcome - just bring your bike, a picnic and relax.
Don't forget to pick up a voucher from the council’s cycling team stand for discounted rates on ice cream and tea/coffee at the cafe in the park .
Admission to Happy Mount Park is free.
