Dallas Road win trip to Old Trafford after winning Kwik cricket competition

Lancaster City Council hosted its annual Primary School Kwik Cricket Festival at Westgate and Torrisholme Cricket Clubs.
The event was run in conjunction with the Lancashire Cricket Board, sponsored by Asda. An exciting day of cricket was in prospect with 24 teams taking part to entertain the spectators.
Teams were drawn in eight groups of three with the top team going through to the quarter finals and the second placed team entering the plate knockout competition.
Last year’s winners Dallas Road warmed up to retain their title with two easy victories in the group games with Ryelands, Bolton-le-Sands and a very good St Bernadette’s team progressing to the quarter finals. Joining them were Scotforth, Westgate, Torrisholme and Lancaster Road for the knockout stages of the competition.
Dallas Road overcame a strong challenge from a determined Ryelands team while St Bernadette’s edged out Bolton-le-Sands in a thrilling match. Scotforth eased past Westgate and Torrisholme smashed past Lancaster Road in a high scoring game.
The semi finals paired Scotforth with St Bernadette’s and Torrisholme with Dallas Road. After two close games St Bernadette’s held their nerve to beat Scotforth by just two runs and Dallas Road made it through to the final again with their talented cricketers.
After scoring 247-2 in the final, St Bernadette’s were confident of winning the game but Dallas Road triumphed scoring 259-2 to hold onto the trophy. Both teams will represent the Lancaster District in the County Finals at Old Trafford on Tuesday July 7.
After narrowly losing to Scotforth in the group stages, Moorside went on to beat Slyne in the plate final of the competition. Thanks to both Westgate and Torrisholme Cricket Clubs for hosting the event and to their members for their hospitality during the day.
The winners and runners up each received trophies for their efforts on the day with all competitors receiving a certificate and medal for taking part..The day was played in good spirits with the focus being on fun, enjoyment and fair play. Asda provided all teams with goody bags and refreshments promoting healthy eating.
