Join Lancaster City Council and celebrate the Armed Forces
Armed Forces Day on June 27
Lancaster City Council is inviting military veterans, serving personnel and their families to help it celebrate the work of the Armed Forces.
Saturday 27 June is Armed Forces Day and to mark this special occasion the council will be holding flag raising ceremonies on Monday June 22 at 10.30am.
The mayor, Coun Roger Sherlock, will be in Dalton Square from 10.15am to witness a unique flag bearing the ‘Armed Forces Day’ logo being raised at Lancaster Town Hall.
At the same time the deputy mayor, Coun Robert Redfern, will witness the flag going up at Morecambe from the gardens of Morecambe Town Hall.
There will also be support at each event by the Lancashire Lieutenancy.
The High Sheriff of Lancashire, Susie Reynolds, will be at Lancaster and a deputy lieutenant, Colonel John Davies DL, will attend at Morecambe.
In each case, once the flags have been raised coffee will be available at both locations for people who attend.
The flags will be flown from Monday 22 June to Monday 29 June, when they will be taken down.
In addition to flags at the two town halls, one will be flown at Torrisholme Cemetery, where many veterans of the military are buried.
