18 local primary schools compete in Kwik Cricket competition.

Lancaster City Council hosted their primary school Kwik Cricket Festival at Trimpell Cricket Club on Wednesday, 3 June in conjunction with this year’s Lancashire Youth Games.

An exciting day of cricket was in anticipated with the sun shining and 18 primary school teams competing to represent the district in two separate competitions.

In the girls’competition, St Peter’s and Ellel went through to the final after beating Torrisholme and Moorside respectively.

In a close final St Peter’s eventually won a close game by nine runs against a brave side from Ellel with the result in doubt until the final over.

St Peter’s will represent the district in the county final at Unsworth Cricket Club, Bury on Wednesday 24 June.

In the mixed year 4/5 competition, all group matches proved competitive and played in good spirit.

Torrisholme made it through to the final beating Lancaster Road by 15 runs and Moorside beat Westgate by just four runs.

The final turned out to be Moorside’s best performance of the day as their talented cricketers brushed aside the challenge from Torrisholme.

Moorside will represent the district in this year’s Lancashire Youth Games at Salt Ayre Sport Centre on Thursday, 2 July.

All young competitors enjoyed the day and received a medal for taking part. The winners and runners up each received trophies for their efforts on the day.

Thanks go to Trimpell Cricket Club for hosting the event and for their hospitality throughout the events.
