Tipitina to play New Orleans jazz at The Platform

A talented young band from Preston, Tipitina, will be performing top quality New Orleans jazz at The Platform on Saturday March 28.

A talented young band from Preston, Tipitina, will be performing top quality New Orleans jazz at The Platform on Saturday March 28.

Tipitina are Justin Randall, Debbie Jones and Gary Barber.  The name comes form the title of a piece by the late Professor Longhair and it is from the Prof and his students – Fats Domino, Dr John, Allen Toussaint et al – that they draw much of their inspiration.

The concert will be filled with music from New Orleans and a few other hot spots along the way, from juke joints and dance halls, warm nights and windy streets, good times remembered and a few bad moments best forgotten.  In short, to borrow Hoagy Carmichael's handy list of life enhancing ingredients, it comes from swing, boogie woogie and jive – not forgetting the blues and even gospel music.

The concert will be preceded by a singing workshop which is suitable for all the family, beginners and improvers.  Everyone is welcome to come along and join in with tradtional gospel songs, jazz, swing, blues and soul.

The workshop will run from 6.30pm to 7.30pm and is free to concert ticket holders or £2 on the door to non ticket holders.  The concert will start at 8pm and tickets cost £11 adults, £10 concessions.  Tickets for the concert are available from the box office on 01524 582803, booking for the workshop is not necessary, just turn up at the door.

Cultural Services is just one of a wide range of services provided to you by Lancaster City Council. These services would not be possible without the support of the £3.52 which, on average, you pay in council tax to Lancaster City Council .
