Party on the Prom

Party on the Prom

Anniversary party to celebrate two years of off-road cycling in Morecambe.

Lancaster City Council is celebrating two glorious years of cycling along Morecambe’s promenade by hosting a party for all the family.

In April 2007, ancient byelaws prohibiting cycling along the length of the promenade were lifted, opening up an additional five miles of off-road cycling with stunning views and a link to the district-wide cycle network.

To celebrate two years of healthy travel along Morecambe’s seafront, an anniversary party will be held on Sunday, 10 May.

Centred around The Dome area, the fun begins at around 11am.

There will be lots to see and do for all ages so bring along your bikes, trikes, tandems and scooters and join in the fun.

Ride along the promenade with the fastest one man band on a bike, brush up on your bike maintenance skills with Pedal Power's 'Hotbench' or race against your friends and family on a virtual cycle race and win a prize for the fastest time.

Other events and activities include:

- Bike stunts from the Trials Display Team (soon to be seen on Britain's Got Talent).
- Learn to Cycle – two fun training sessions for children age 4+ who can't yet cycle or use stabilisers (10.30-12:30 and 1.30-3.30). Call 01524 582392 to book. Courses cost £6.
- Bling your Bike - make your very own dustcap, handlebar tassels and more
- Treasure hunt
- Information and advice from the CDT and Lancashire TravelWise Teams
- Security postcoding from Lancashire Police
- Fitness testing
- Cargo bike and adapted bike displays

Other attractions include Sunshine Cycle Hire, RSPB Leighton Moss, Accident Safety Partnership, Energy Savings Trust, Forest of Bowland, Marie Curie Coast to Coast Challenge.

Want to take part in the celebrations but don't have a bike? Sunshine Cycle Hire (based at Coopers Amusements, opposite Midland Hotel, Morecambe) are offering half price hire on bikes, trailers, tag-alongs and tandems so everyone can join in the fun. For more information telephone 01524 414709 or visit www.sunshinecyclehire.co.uk.
