New mayor gets set to don his robes
The next mayor of Lancaster will officially don his robes on Friday May 15.

Coun Roger Sherlock will become the Right Worshipful the Mayor of the City of Lancaster in a special ceremony which will take place in Lancaster’s Ashton Hall, starting at 12pm.
Coun Sherlock has represented the Skerton West ward since he was elected to the city council in 1995.
A retired engineer, he enjoys making the most of the district’s rural areas and is a keen fisherman.
During his mayoral year the charities he has chosen to support are Breath for Life, based in Heysham, and the Skerton Community Centre.
Coun Sherlock will be supported throughout his mayoral year by his wife Ethel, as mayoress, and Coun Robert Redfern as deputy mayor.
His first official duty will take place on Saturday May 16, when he will attend the Lancashire Youth Dance Festival. The following day (Sunday May 17) is Mayor’s Sunday, when there will be a church blessing for the new mayor at a service at Lancaster Priory.
