Revised plans submitted for Lancaster Science park

A revised planning application has been submitted for the proposed Lancaster Science Park at Bailrigg, next to Lancaster University.

A revised planning application has been submitted for the proposed Lancaster Science Park at Bailrigg, next to Lancaster University.

The 11.4 ha site will include a purpose-built Innovation Centre to house new and expanding knowledge-based businesses. It will also provide serviced sites and space for businesses wishing to co-locate with the University or spinning out from InfoLab21 and the Lancaster Environment Centre. The project, a joint collaboration between the North West Development Agency (NWDA), Lancaster City Council and Lancaster University, is expected to create several hundred jobs over the next 10-15 years.

David Sanderson, Science Policy Manager at NWDA, said: “The Science Park is a strategically important initiative which will create both wealth and high quality jobs, benefiting the district, the University, and the wider sub-region."

A public consultation was held in March in Lancaster, Scotforth and Galgate, and exhibition materials were on display in Lancaster Library and Lancaster University library. Some 78 people attended the consultations, including local residents, city, parish and county councillors, members of the business community and members of Lancaster University. The comments received were fed back to the city council and have resulted in some amendments to the planning application.

The planning application and associated documents are available to view on the city council’s website.
