Scottish singer Dick Gaughan returns to The Platform
An evening of Scottish folk music.
Lancaster City Council welcomes back Scottish singer/songwriter Dick Gaughan to the Platform in Morecambe, on Saturday May 30.
Dick Gaughan has been at the cutting edge of Scottish music for almost four decades. The songs he delivers ask questions that some listeners may have thought never existed – so they may not, instantly at least, know the answers. The answers are delivered in a voice that throbs with a unique, controlled vibrating passion.
Expect to go home from the concert feeling exhilarated, with the wonderful skills of the most potent singer from the Scottish folk music revival, and the astonishingly fluent and explosively eloquent guitar playing.
Dick’s songs range from political statements to those about fighters, victims, the helpless, the wronged and working class bravehearts who made capitalism work (after a fashion) to those about peace and love, mixed with his versions of some of the great traditional Scots ballads.
The past two years have seen Dick on the road as usual in Italy, Canada, Australia and New Zealand as well as the UK and Ireland – the day’s work of the professional entertainer. Dick is a troubadour on the road, taking his songs and music around the world from Catalonia to Canada, making the occasional foray into the recording studio when the urge comes on him, and making new friends, new enemies and influencing people.
The concert will start at 8pm and tickets cost £11 adults, £10 concessions from the Box Office on 01524 582803.
