Cabinet proposes new priorities
LANCASTER City Council's Cabinet has agreed four key priorities on which it will be proposing that the Council focuses its resources over the coming year.
The priorities were agreed at the meeting of the council’s Cabinet last Tuesday (November 13).
They provide a framework on which will be used by Cabinet as it develops its Corporate Plan and budget proposals for public consultation and consideration by Council.
The priorities are:
1) Economic Regeneration supporting our local economy
* Energy Coast and environmental technology (advance manufacturing)
* Heritage and cultural tourism for the district (City, Coast and Countryside) – to include creative industries and ‘high end’ employment too
2) Climate Change – implementing the city council’s Climate Change Strategy. A focus on energy savings – so that we are not hit by rising fuel prices, improve our environment and create cashable savings
3) Statutory services – clean and green – achieving at least minimum statutory standards in, for example, housing, environmental health, street cleaning and refuse collection
4) Partnership working and Community Leadership – shaping the district and working with others to deliver the Sustainable Community Strategy and provide services currently contributing to the quality of life in the district that are not the district council’s main function or priority.
Coun Stuart Langhorn, Leader of the Council, said: “These priorities will help the council to focus on the things we need to do to help us deliver real and lasting improvements in the district within the finances available to us.”
