District secures tourism publicity
LANCASTER and Morecambe are in the spotlight again as major tourism destinations for 2010.
Because of Lancaster City Council’s involvement with the British Resorts and Destinations Association (BRADA), Morecambe will be featured in the December edition of Coach Monthly magazine.
Mention will also be made of historic Lancaster on the doorstep and of the range of attractions in the area. The coaching trade remains important for Morecambe in particular and the group travel market will be targeted again by the council’s tourism team at the Great Days Out Fair in February.
Morecambe also features in the first edition of Northern Rail’s customer magazine. This is a new 52 page publication, called Northern, which is being distributed to passengers at 11 major stations across the Northern Rail network including Skipton, Manchester Victoria and Harrogate.
Travel writer Stuart Maconie has contributed to the magazine and Morecambe is featured, with excellent photographs, on pages 37 and 38.
Coun Evelyn Archer, Cabinet Member with responsibility for the economy, said: "This is good news that our destination is featuring in influential publications just at the time when people are beginning to think about holidays in 2010.
"I very much hope that coach drivers and train travellers will sit down over the Christmas holidays and decide to pay us a visit next year. More and more people are using the direct rail connection from Leeds to Morecambe and I would like to see this long tradition continue well into the future."
