Ghost programme provides tourism boost

A POPULAR live TV show has been credited for putting the ‘spirit’ back into Morecambe

On Saturday the final episode of a special Halloween live edition of Most Haunted was broadcast from Morecambe’s Winter Gardens.

It brought to an end an eight night marathon of the TV show, which began on October 24 and ran right the way through to Halloween.

As well as bringing in more than 100 crew to film and set up the programme, the show attracted thousands of spirit hunters from across the UK to be in the audience and watch the show at the Winter Gardens.

Jim Trotman, tourism manager, at Lancaster City Council, said: “Most Haunted Live has had a greater impact on tourism than we ever could have dreamed.

“Whatever you think of the actual TV programme itself, it has been successful in both promoting our district and bringing hundreds of people to the district who may never have thought of visiting it before.

“Many of the district’s hotels and guesthouses, restaurants and shops have benefited and we hope that many of those people who were in the audience at the Winter Gardens, or saw the show on television, will come back to visit us again.”

As well as filming live at the Winter Gardens, the show filmed a number of locations throughout the district including Lancaster Town Hall, the Alhambra buildings in Morecambe, Lancaster Golf Club, the Ashton Memorial and the Three Mariners pub in Lancaster.
