Sandyland’s scoops top prize in Walk the Talk Challenge Awards
SANDYLANDS primary school in Morecambe has won a district-wide competition to find the best community project.
Earlier this year Linco Communications Ltd teamed up with Lancaster City Council to launch the Walk the Talk Challenge Awards.
The new venture asked children from local primary schools to lead and develop their own community projects.
Sandylands primary rose to the challenge and has won £1,000 to put their ideas into action.
They wowed the judges with the concept behind their RESPECT campaign - Respect Everyone Show Politeness Embrace Consideration and Thoughtfulness.
The children plan to use the prize money to record and tour their RESPECT rap with the help of More Music and promote the importance of respect in their local community.
Angela Cokell, who mentored the winning project team, said: “The staff and children at Sandylands are extremely proud to have won. Every school should be at the heart of its community and we want every one of our children to be respectful citizens.”
Three schools were runners up and will receive £100 each. They are St Patrick’s Primary School, Heysham; Torrisholme Primary School, Morecambe; Nether Kellet Community Primary School, Carnforth.
Colin Carruthers, Managing Director of Linco Communications Ltd added: “We were very impressed with all the awards entries but Sandyland’s pupils shone out because they want to take their project to other schools and their communities.”
