English folk band Faustus to perform at The Platform in Morecambe

BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2009 nominees, Faustus, will be performing at The Platform in Morecambe on Friday November 6.

Comprised of three of the most pivotal players in the English roots revival of the past decade, Faustus boasts a trio of travelling minstrels whose musical CV is extremely impressive. Saul Rose is probably the best melodeon player in the country and is best known for his work with the Kings of Calicutt and Waterson Carthy.

Paul Sartin is a hugely versatile and classically trained musician who counts Bellowhead, Belshazzars Feast and Christchurch Cathedral Choir amongst his many musical outings. Paul plays fiddle and oboe.

The third usual member of Faustus is Benji Kirkpatrick, former member of the Oysterband, who is unable to be part of this performance. His place will be taken more than adequately by James Fagan who plays guitar and bouzouki. The band have also added Bellowhead drummer Pete Flood to the line up.

The band doesn’t give much thought to their position in the new young contemporary folk scene. They have no agenda except for simply trying to make good music – music that is accessible and music that is not too esoteric or egocentric. They are an incredibly exciting young band that are a must-see.

Think Elizabethan pop, think fretboard wizardry, think melodeon. If you can think all that, you have just conjured the dark and peculiar modieval world that is Faustus.

The show will start at 8pm and tickets cost £12 adults, £11 concessions from the box office on 01524 582803.
