Follow in the footsteps of the Pendle Witches
WHY not follow in the footsteps of the Pendle Witches this Halloween?
A new Pendle Witches Trail leaflet has been launched this week which tells the fascinating tale of the infamous Lancashire Witches.
The leaflet has been produced in a partnership between Lancaster City, Ribble Valley and Pendle Borough councils.
Following the distinctive witches symbol, the trail can be undertaken by car or cycle from Lancaster through the Trough of Bowland and the villages which surround Pendle Hill.
Coun Evelyn Archer, Lancaster City Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for the economy, said: “It is now nearly 400 years since the Pendle witches were hanged for their ‘crimes’ and their story continues to fascinate people both locally and from around the world.
“As well as having full directions of the trail, the leaflet is jam-packed with interesting facts about the witches and what life was like for them in the 17th century."
The Witches Trail leaflet is available at Lancaster and Morecambe Visitor Information Centres for 50p. Lancaster Visitor Centre and the online shop at: www.citycoastcountryside.co.uk have a great collection of Pendle Witch related books. As a special offer the Witches Trail leaflet will be free with any book purchase from Lancaster or Morecambe Visitor Information Centres.
