Morecambe among 'most holiday friendly' towns
Morecambe has beaten some of the country’s tourism hot spots in a poll of the most holiday friendly towns.
The town came 21st in the poll, beating popular destinations such as York (24th on the list), the Lake District (40), the Peak District (44), and Chester (49).
The survey was conducted by Virgin Money Travel Insurance and was based on factors including the cost of a week in a hotel, price and availability of restaurants and overall value for money.
Coun Evelyn Archer, Cabinet member with responsibility for the economy at Lancaster City Council, said: "Quite often surveys focus on one particular issue but the encouraging aspect of this one is that it looks at the overall ‘package’ provided by holiday destinations.
“With our sandy beaches, excellent local restaurants and businesses and, of course, one of the best views in the country, Morecambe has something for everyone.
“The results of this survey are very encouraging and show that Morecambe is now well placed to become a favourite destination for people who are looking to holiday at home.
“Hopefully we can build on this and climb the rankings.”
