Temporary arrangements in place for Housing Benefits customers

Postal strike won't effect benefits cheques

LANCASTER City Council has put temporary arrangements in place to ensure people on Housing Benefit can continue to pay their rent during the forthcoming postal strikes.

The majority of people in receipt of Housing Benefit currently have it paid into their bank accounts, but a significant few still receive their money by cheque through the post.

To ensure they are not affected by the postal strike the council has made arrangements to ensure they still receive their cheques at the normal time.

Richard Mason, Head of Revenue Services said: “Housing Benefit is important to many people as it helps them to meet their housing costs. Even though the postal strikes may only affect a few tenants, the council wants to make sure that they can pay their rent without undue delay or inconvenience.”
