Winners of electoral registration prize draw announced
The Mayor of Lancaster, Coun Roger Sherlock, Michelle Glen, Simeon Glen, Brian Coyle and Mark Cullinan
Three people have picked up cheques totalling £450 – just for returning their electoral registration forms.
Earlier this year Lancaster City Council entered everyone who confirmed their details on the electoral register, or registered changes to their existing details, by September 4 into a free prize draw.
Brian Coyle from Morecambe was the first name out of the hat and picked up a cheque for £250.
Emma Eastoe from Galgate was second and Michelle Glen from Lancaster third. They won £125 and £75 respectively.
Mark Cullinan, Lancaster City Council’s chief executive and returning officer for the Lancaster district, said: “It is extremely important that people register to vote and, in doing so, ensure their voice is heard.
"By registering early the winners of the competition have helped us to reduce the cost of the annual canvass, which ultimately benefits us all.
"I would urge anyone who has not yet registered to do so as soon as possible."
Annual canvass registration forms were sent out to all households in the district during August and canvassing staff have been out visiting the homes of those households that haven’t replied.
The aim of the competition was to ease the burden on the canvassers and, ultimately, reduce the cost of the annual canvass.
The revised Register of Electors will be published on December 1.
