Dog wardens get on their bikes

Lancaster City Council dog wardens are getting on their bikes to help them reach parts of the district most commonly used by dog walkers.

With encouragement and support from the council’s Cycling Demonstration Town Team the wardens have kitted themselves out with two all terrain bikes which will enable them to carry out more regular patrols of Morecambe Promenade, parks and cycle paths in their bid to catch dog offenders.

Coun David Kerr, cabinet member with responsibility for Health and Wellbeing said: “We aim to reach target areas which we would normally only be able to access on foot. It will help us to do this far more efficiently and once offenders know the areas are being targeted it is hoped they will clean up after their dogs and make sure they are kept under control”.
