Update: Changes to recycling collections

Mixed recycling of tins, plastic and glass in the green box with yellow lid
Lancaster City Council has made a number of changes to its recycling collections, making it easier than ever to recycle.
At the beginning of August Lancaster City Council introduced a new system for collecting recyclable waste, making recycling easier for residents.
Residents now have less sorting to do, placing paper and cardboard into the black box, and plastic bottles, glass, tins, cans and foil into the green box.
Any spare boxes can be used for either extra paper and cardboard, or extra plastic, glass and cans, as long as the waste is sorted correctly.
Residents who do not have a black box can use one of their green boxes for paper and cardboard, as long as no other materials are placed in the same box.
Any residents who have fewer than three boxes and feel they need another one, can contact the city council’s customer service team on 01524 582491 to order one.
In the meantime any extra waste, except glass, can be separated in the same way and placed in untied carrier bags alongside the boxes.
All residents should now have received their new refuse and recycling calendars, which detail the changes and show what is collected each week. Further information and frequently asked questions can be found at www.lancaster.gov.uk/bins
