Cycle away the school holidays with Lancaster City Council
LANCASTER City Council is inviting youngsters to brush up on their cycling skills for free during the February school holidays with a range of fun training sessions for all ages.
‘Bikeability’ offers children aged between 9 and 16 years free Cycling Proficiency for the 21st Century. Cycling is healthy and fun but it's best to learn how to do it safely. That is why thousands of children across England have already taken part in ‘Bikeability’.
There are two courses on offer during half term from Monday 15 - Thursday 18 February. The first course takes place from 10am - 12pm, and the next one starts from 1 - 3pm. Children who would like to join the course must be able to attend every session.
Sessions are taking place at Salt Ayre Sports Centre and on nearby roads.
Children must bring a roadworthy bike and suitable clothes for being outdoors.
As a special treat for the final day, there will be a ride to a local cafe for all those who have taken part. Parents, grandparents, carers etc are all most welcome to join in by meeting at 10am by the reception at Salt Ayre with their own bike, suitable outdoor clothes and money for the café.
For youngsters who are keen to get on their bikes there is a ‘Learn to Cycle’ course aimed at those aged 4 years and over.
This course is aimed at children who use stabilisers or cannot yet ride.
Pedals and stabilisers will be removed from the bikes so that the children can learn to balance before they progress to pedalling.
Events take place on Monday 15 February: 10am - 12pm and 1- 3pm
Wednesday 17 February: 10am - 12pm and 1 - 3pm and Friday 19 February: 10am - 12pm
This course costs £6 and takes place at Salt Ayre Sports Centre. Children must bring a roadworthy bike and suitable clothes for being outdoors.
Children under 8 years old must be accompanied and adults may be asked to assist.
