City council staff help residents recycle

A recent recycling roadshow in Lancaster

A recent recycling roadshow in Lancaster

Recycling will become easier for local people next month as Lancaster City Council makes changes to its recycling collections.

From Monday 2 August, residents will keep the recycling boxes they currently have, but will use them differently.

The black box with red lid will be used for newspapers, cardboard, junk mail, telephone directories and other printed paper.

The green boxes with yellow lids will be used for plastic bottles, glass, foil and cans - these items do not need to be separated.

To help residents with these changes, Lancaster City Council staff are holding roadshows around the district to offer advice and tips on recycling and how the new system will work.

These will take place from 10am to 3pm on the following days:

  • July 22 Marketgate, Lancaster (outside New Look)
  • July 23 Morecambe Library
  • July 27 Morrisons supermarket, Morecambe
  • July 28 Sainsbury's supermarket, Lancaster

The new refuse and recycling calendars are currently being delivered and all residents should receive their calendar by the end of July. The calendars are also available online at www.lancaster.gov.uk/bins along with lots more useful information.

A separate food waste recycling collection will be introduced in the near future and residents will be informed of these changes in due course.
