Summer fun is child’s play with Lancaster City Council

Sports, games, arts and crafts and exciting trips on offer for the district’s youngsters.
Sports, games, arts and crafts and exciting trips are on offer for the district’s youngsters as Lancaster City Council prepares for their extremely popular Summer Playschemes, Summer Activity Programme and Play Ranger activities.
Summer Playschemes
The free Summer Playschemes take place from Monday to Friday at various community venues around the district and are open to young people aged from 8 - 11 years old.
Starting on August 2 and running until August 27, playschemes start at 10am and finish at 4pm at the following venues:
- Skerton St Lukes School, Lancaster
- Mossgate School, Heysham
- Christchurch School, Carnforth
- Morecambe Youth and Community Centre, Morecambe
- Ellel Primary School, Galgate
- Hornby Institute, Hornby
- Morecambe Bay School, Morecambe
- Barton Road Community Centre, Lancaster
- Warton Village Hall, Warton
Due to the popularity of these schemes, it is essential to book your place for the playschemes specifying which venue you would like your child to attend. To book a place you can either call into Morecambe Town Hall to collect the registration forms or telephone 01524 582827 to request one.

- There is no cost to the schemes however donations are welcome
Children's Activities Programme
Lancaster City Council is also organising exciting activities such as sailing, gorge walking, BMX biking, skiing, cheerleading and beach volleyball for the Summer Holiday Programme.
These activities are available for children aged 4 - 16 years. A full programme is available from Salt Ayre Sports Centre, Lancaster and Morecambe Town Halls and Visitor Information Centres, local swimming pools and libraries. A booking form is available within the programme and one form must be completed for every child wanting to take part in any of the activities. Bookings are taken at Salt Ayre Sports Centre, Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm (up to 7pm on Wednesdays). For more information, please contact the booking information line on 01524 842493.
This invaluable service is here to offer safe, accessible and affordable play. All children are guaranteed to have fun and parents can relax with the knowledge that their children are being cared for by trained staff.
Play Rangers
Lancaster City Council’s Play Rangers will be out and about in council parks and play areas across the district throughout the summer holidays with lots of fun free activities for children aged 4 to 16 years to take part in.
From arts and crafts to den building, cooking to water slides – there is something for everyone. Children under the age of eight years old must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.
Sessions start from Tuesday July 27 and run until Wednesday August 25. A full programme can be found by visiting www.lancaster.gov.uk/playrangers or by collecting a copy from council venues including Lancaster and Morecambe Town Halls, visitor information centres and Salt Ayre Sports Centre.
To take part in any of these activities, children must have a completed booking form to hand in to the play ranger at the start of the session.
National Play Day
An action packed day of activities will take place at Williamson Park to celebrate National Play Day.
On Wednesday August 4 from 10am – 4pm, children will have the chance to join in with den building, playing on inflatables, cooking, arts and crafts, face painting, slides, circus skills and the ‘Playschemes Got Talent’ show. All activities are free - just turn up and register on the day.
