Lancaster City Council wants your views on future developments
Lancaster City Council is inviting local people to have their say on the district’s planning policy on design, location and sustainability of new developments.
Following completion of the Lancaster District Core Strategy the council is about to start work on the second phase of its Local Development Framework, which will set the district’s detailed planning policies for the next 15 years.
Council Officers will be on hand at the following venues to answer any questions and discuss the documents which have recently been produced on Land Allocations and Development Management, and Sustainability.
- Lancaster Library: Tuesday 13 July 1pm-7pm, Wednesday 14 July 9am -1pm
- Morecambe Library: Thursday 15 July 9am-1pm, Thursday 22 July 2pm-7pm
- Carnforth Library: Mon 19 July 10.15am-1pm
- Hornby Village Institute: Tues 27 July 11am-1pm
A scoping document has been produced which sets out what the council thinks it should be addressing, such as the location of new developments, the design and sustainability principles to be used, as well as the timescales to be covered. The council wants to know if local people agree with these views and if there are any other areas that should be addressed.
Documents will then be produced which will identify land to be developed for housing, employment or retail, land which should be protected from future development and land needed for future infrastructure such as new roads. The documents will also establish the policies the council will use when deciding whether to grant planning permission for new development.
Coun Abbott Bryning, cabinet member with responsibility for planning and regeneration said: “This is an exciting time for the district, representing a real opportunity to shape the area we live in, both for ourselves and future generations. The input of the local community is vital in ensuring that the needs of our residents and businesses are truly reflected, whilst also helping to protect the district’s environmental and historic assets.”
The council has also prepared a draft Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report outlining the proposed framework to be used in assessing the sustainability of proposals as they emerge through the development plan process. This has been prepared on behalf of the council by Hyder Consultants.
The documents are available to view at www.lancaster.gov.uk/ldf and at Lancaster Town Hall, Morecambe Town Hall, Lancaster Library and Morecambe Library. A Facebook page is also available through the council website.
