Morecambe Area Action Plan takes another step forward

On Tuesday June 22, the city council's Cabinet will be asked to consider how to take forward the Morecambe Area Action Plan (MAAP).

Lancaster City Council is taking the next steps in producing a comprehensive development plan to create a bright future for Morecambe.

On Tuesday June 22, the city council’s Cabinet will be asked to consider how to take forward the Morecambe Area Action Plan (MAAP).

Cabinet will discuss ways of overseeing the project, which include working with people and businesses to create a comprehensive regeneration plan for Morecambe’s central area.

This area will include the central retail core, the promenade and the former Frontierland fairground.

Coun Abbott Bryning, Cabinet member with responsibility for the economy, said: “Much has been achieved in Morecambe over the past 20 years, but there’s no doubt that there is still much to do.

“Rather than dealing with proposals on an individual basis we need a comprehensive plan which ensures that any future developments complement each other and achieve real change.

“We won’t be able to do this by ourselves and we want the people and businesses of Morecambe to share their ideas and thoughts on what they want the resort to be and how it can be revitalised.”

Preparation of the MAAP is anticipated to take two years, with formal adoption in 2012.

Along the way, there will be considerable opportunities for people to have their say and get involved through public exhibitions and consultations.
