An evening of traditional Scottish folk music with Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham

Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham

Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham

DYNAMIC box and fiddle duo, Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, will be returning to The Platform in Morecambe on Friday March 26.

This world famous partnership was recognised in 2005 in the BBC Radio 2 folk awards where they won the Best Duo Award. With their extraordinary skills, they have taken their respective instruments, fiddle and accordion, to new heights and have both been honoured with the MBE and several honorary doctorates between them for their services to Scottish music.

One of the founder members of 'Boys of the Lough', Aly is regarded as Scotland's supreme traditional style fiddler. Phil is no less a notable character, having been named one of Scotland's 25 most influential people.

Their performances are a mix of high energy, technically breathtaking reels and jigs, heartbreaking slow airs and tunes from around the world plus hilarious between-set humour.

Recently, the lads have toured in Spain, USA, Scotland, Sweden and Canada and were honoured by playing at the funeral of Robin Cook, who claimed they were his favourite performers during his lifetime.

They rounded off last year with their annual live performance on New Year's Eve on BBC Scotland's TV Special 'Hogmanay Live'. Apart from their usual performances, Aly and Phil like to indulge in their favourite hobby, cooking, with live demonstrations in Langholme and Durness and a TV appearance on 'Ready Steady Cook'.

The concert will start at 8pm and tickets cost £13 adults, £12 concessions from the box office on 01524 582803.
