Morecambe VIC shortlisted for prestigious tourism award
Lancaster City Council's Morecambe Visitor Information Centre has been shortlisted for the prestigious North West TIC Awards.
Earlier this year, the centre was given top marks following a mystery shopping exercise arranged by the North West Development Agency (NWDA).
Marks were scored against the overall appearance of the centres, first impressions, displays, staff interaction and service.
Morecambe Visitor Information Centre achieved a score of 100% in all areas of customer care and out of 68 centres assessed in the north west, ranked number one.
The centre went forward to the second round which involved completing a questionnaire about all aspects of the centre and how staff are prepared to go the extra mile to fulfil the needs of their customers.
Representatives from the centre have been invited to attend an awards ceremony at Old Trafford Cricket Ground on the September 29 when the NWDA will reveal the region's best tourist information centre. The regional winner will then go forward to the national finals in April 2011.
Coun June Ashworth, cabinet member with responsibility for tourism said: “Lancaster City Council is proud to have its professional and dedicated team of visitor information staff recognised in this way. I wish them lots of luck in being selected to go through to the national finals in April.”
Other north west tourist information centres shortlisted are Kendal, Preston, Rochdale and Appleby TICs and Liverpool John Lennon Airport Information Desk/TIC.
