Due to the level of interest in the Morecambe Area Action Plan, the Developing Options consultation has been extended to Friday 1 April

The council is continuing to work with local residents and stakeholders to develop the Morecambe Area Action Plan – a plan to improve the centre of Morecambe and make it more attractive to live, trade and work in, as well as encouraging more visitors to the town.

The council spent much of 2010 talking to people about their views on Morecambe, finding many positive aspects but also identifying some of the main issues for concern.

A document, called Topic Paper 2: Developing Options, was published in early February, summarising these key issues, and explaining what the council thinks the area action plan needs to address.

Due to the level of interest in this consultation, the deadline for comment has been extended from Friday, 18 March to Friday, 1 April.

Two presentation and discussion sessions were held during the first week in March regarding Morecambe's 'heart' and the activity within that area, which incorporated tasks looking at the way the town centre is used, including pedestrian movement. Planning Officers would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended and took part.

Anybody who missed one of these sessions can still have their say and suggest what should go into the plan. Topic Paper 2: Developing Options is available from www.lancaster.gov.uk/morecambeaap where information on how to respond or make comments is also available.

Alternatively the report can be obtained by emailing morecambeaap@lancaster.gov.uk or by calling 01524 582375 or calling in at Morecambe Town Hall during office hours (9am to 5pm Monday to Friday).

This is an important phase in preparing the area action plan and the input of local people and organisations at this stage is vital.

Once all comments and suggestions have been received, the council will work with other interested parties to analyse and work up options for taking the plan forward, including the council’s preferred option. The options are expected to be available for consultation in the autumn.
