Outline options for central Morecambe
Lancaster City Council is currently consulting on outline options for the content of the Morecambe Area Action Plan and invites comments and further suggestions.
The plan will become the starting point for planning and investment decisions in central Morecambe, and since early 2010 the council has been consulting and engaging with people and organisations on what the content might be.
A number of documents are now available for consultation including an overview of the key themes and an analysis of progress so far and how the plan might be moved forward. Full and detailed options are expected to be available for consultation in late Spring 2012.
There are two suggested outline strategies for the plan -
• one about the public sector setting some directions but largely looking to the private sector to bring forward development and change
• another about strengthening the heart of Morecambe, involving a big role for the public sector and in particular the city council, to get the conditions right for private investment by making the place work better and actively orchestrating change.
Coun Janice Hanson, Cabinet member with responsibility for regeneration and planning, said: “These are initial thoughts on what the plan might contain, and comments and alternative proposals are invited. There is a lot of work still to come and the comments received at this stage will help inform future work.”
All of the documents and related information are available to download from www.lancaster.gov.uk/morecambeaap. Hard copies can be obtained by contacting the council using the details below. Copies can also be viewed at Lancaster and Morecambe Town Halls Monday - Friday between 9am and 5pm.
